Aaaaaaand we're off

That was it then. Our final day in York. Today was a very hot day, perfect for spending indoors washing and scrubbing... We decided to get up early, failed, and got up a little later to wash the place down. We were quite thorough. It was therefore a bit of a letdown when the landlord and –lady spent about, oh, four and a half minutes inspecting the place.

Being done with our pensioner’s cottage we decided to walk a final walk on the walls of the city, which is very nice this time of year. Then, we had dinner at Loch Fyne, a fine fish restaurant. After that, a final farewell to some of the people at the NSC, and here we are then, in our very hot (it is very hot in York right now) Victorian cottage.

Tomorrow morning we’ll take the train to London, have a few days’ quality time with some Texans, and then I’m off to Bergen, followed a little later by Katrine.

Goodbye York! Goodbye Fairfax Street and Micklegate. Goodbye English sausages, affordable king prawns and Marks & Spencer chocolate chip cookies. Goodbye Minster, walls, Clifford’s Tower and geese. Tata shop assistants who call us ‘love’, ‘duck’ and ‘sweetheart’, see you later! Goodbye skimpily clad girls and hefty men on Saturday nights (and Friday, Tuesday, Monday, Wednesday. And Sunday and Thursday). Tararabit Oscar’s and Akbar’s. Goodbye takeaways and Indians. Goodbye student discounts and cheap honey. See you later fellow linguists and boxing people. Also a heartfelt goodbye to the shower and frying pan; we will not miss you. Goodbye all the things we’ve forgotten but will remember in the wee small hours of the morning!

Good bike!
